Is Jesus God?
Today we attempt to give an answer to a question Sophie sent in.
We affirm that God is one in essence and three in person.
The Father is 100% God.
The Son is 100% God.
The Holy Spirit is 100% God.
The Father is not the Son or the Holy Spirit.
The Son is not the Holy Spirit or the Father.
The Holy Spirit is not the Father or the Son.
This is a major topic that we’re sure we covered imperfectly. So please show us grace!
We heartily agree with the Chalcedonian Creed (A.D. 451), and would encourage you to take a look at it should you be interested in reading the Church’s historic (and the orthodox) stance on this topic.
Additionally, below is a list of verses supporting the claim that Jesus is God. You can also find a helpful list here.
For further explanation on some of these passages, listen to the episode!
Heb. 1:1-4, 8
Jn. 17:5 (cf. Isa. 42:8)
2 Pet. 1:1
Col. 1:15-20; 2:9
